Irmo resident arrested on tax charges
Columbia, SC…A Richland County resident is in jail this morning after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested her yesterday afternoon on tax charges.
Lashonda Collins, 36, is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center pending a bond hearing. She is charged with four counts of state income tax evasion for tax years 2005 through 2008.
The Department of Revenue investigation showed Collins earned income in amounts that exceeded the requirement to file. The Department found that Collins filed with her employers an employee withholding allowance certificate claiming to be exempt from withholding taxes. This caused a decrease in the amount of state taxes withheld. Collins is accused of willfully attempting to evade income taxes by failing to file a South Carolina individual income tax return for wages earned. The tax owed for the period is $9,074.00.
She is facing up to 20 years in jail and fines of up to $40,000 if convicted of the charges.
