Kershaw county woman arrested on tax related charges
South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) investigators today arrested a woman from Cassatt, S.C.
Jessica N. Dotson, 23, was arrested on two counts of obtaining signature or property by false pretenses.
In 2009, the SCDOR received a 2008 individual income tax return and two fraudulent W-2 forms in the name of Jessica N. Dotson. The SCDOR determined Dotson did not work for either company indicated on the W-2s and that she received fraudulent tax refunds totaling $7,585.78 for tax year 2008.
Also in 2009, the SCDOR received another individual’s 2008 income tax return and fraudulent W-2 form. The SCDOR determined the individual was unaware that a fraudulent tax return had been filed in her name with the agency and that Dotson received the individual’s fraudulent tax refunds.
If convicted, Dotson could face charges of no more than ten years in prison and fined in the discretion of the court.
