Lexington County Business Owner Arrested on State Tax Charges
A Lexington County business owner was arrested today and charged with operating a business without a license.
Edward T. Williams, Jr., 57, owner of Columbia Screen and Awning Company, was arrested by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators and charged with one count of operation of a business without a license. He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The Department of Revenue alleges Williams’ retail license for Columbia Screen and Awning Company Inc. was revoked on October 6, 2009 for failing to timely file and pay state sales tax. He continued operating the business without a license even after being advised further sales were in violation of the law. He is facing up to 30 days in prison and fines of up to $200 if convicted of the charges.
