Myrtle Beach couple charged with tax evasion

A Myrtle Beach couple is facing felony charges after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested them today for failing to file their tax returns.

Clair Melvin Koser, Jr., 56, and his wife, Robin Anne Koser, 55, were each charged with four counts of state income tax evasion. They are being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

The couple is accused of failing to file their state tax returns from 2002 2005. The Department estimates the couple had combined earned income during that period of $642,273 and has a tax liability of $22,691 for the years they failed to file.

Clair Koser is in the construction business and Robin Koser is in real estate sales.

Each is facing up to 20 years in prison and fines of up to $40,000 if convicted of the charges.

The Horry County Sheriff's Office assisted in the Kosers' arrest.
