North Augusta woman arrested on tax charges

A North Augusta woman is being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center following her arrest today on charges of filing fraudulent state income tax returns.

Trinika Mason, 34, a buyer for an aerospace electronics company, is being held pending a bond hearing after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged her with two counts of state tax evasion.

Mason is accused of claiming more than $69,000 in bogus tax deductions on her 2006 and 2007 state tax returns. Her total tax liability is $5,046 for the period covered in the charges. She is facing up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $20,000 if convicted of the charges.
