MIDLANDS RESIDENT CHARGED WITH FOUR COUNTS OF INCOME TAX EVASION
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators today charged Camden resident Donald Byrd Williams, 44, with four counts of income tax evasion. He is accused of claiming false medical deductions and un-reimbursed employee business expenses for calendar years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
Williams allegedly prepared his own individual income tax returns for 2000-2003 in which he claimed over $16,000 in false medical deductions and $65,814 in false un-reimbursed employee business expenses. During that time period, Williams received refunds totaling $2,295 that he was not entitled to and was therefore charged with committing the violation of income tax evasion as defined in S.C. Code Section 12-54-44(B)(1).
Williams is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to five years in prison, fines up to $10,000, or both.
