Special Education Director Arrested on Income Tax Evasion
A Florence County special education director was arrested today and charged with income tax evasion.
Tiffany McDuffie, 36, Director of Special Education for Florence County School District 4, was arrested by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators and charged with three counts of income tax evasion. She is being held at the Sumter County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The Department alleges McDuffie earned gross income of $149,219 during the years of 2005-2007. She allegedly filed a letter with her employer requesting no taxes be withheld from her pay checks which resulted in her state withholding amount to be zero. Because McDuffie did not file individual income tax returns for the years 2005-2007, she avoided the payment $3,612.00 in taxes due to the state.
She is facing up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $30,000 if convicted of the charges. Sumter County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrest.
