Withholding, Sales Tax Returns to be Filed Electronically in 2011

No sales tax booklets or withholding booklets to be mailed in 2011

The South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) will not be mailing withholding or sales tax return booklets in 2011. The SCDOR is constantly seeking more efficient and inexpensive ways to provide service to the taxpayers, and the Department will realize significant savings in printing and postage with these changes.

Instead of filing by paper, taxpayers will be able to file withholding and sales tax returns electronically. All filing and payment options are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There are four electronic options for withholding: The EPay and EWithholding options allow users to submit their withholding payments and returns, respectively, directly online through the agency’s website; Business Telefile for withholding is an interactive voice response system via telephone for filing withholding returns; and, Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is a limited payment option that can be set up by your financial institution.

In place of sales tax return booklets, the DOR will be mailing a CD that contains fillable forms that taxpayers are to enter data, print and mail to SCDOR. The CD performs simple calculations based on the information entered by the user. In addition, a taxpayer may choose from three electronic filing options: ESales allows taxpayers to submit their sales tax return and payment online through the agency’s website; Business Telefile for Sales tax is an interactive voice response system for filing sales tax returns; and Sales Electronic Data Interchange (Sales EDI) is a computer based software targeted towards high dollar filers.

If taxpayers have additional questions they can call the SCDOR at (803) 896-1715 or visit the Department’s website at and click on Electronic Services for more information.
