Florence lawyer arrested on tax charge

          A Florence attorney is in jail today after South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested him for failing to file his 2000 tax return.

          George G. Reaves, 66, who owns a Florence law firm, is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. He is charged with one count of willfully failing to file a tax return and report his income. The revenue department investigation showed Reaves had a tax liability of $1,825 in 2000.

          Reaves is facing up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted of the charge.
