Greer chiropractor arrested on tax charges

Barry Awe of Greer was arrested Friday for state tax charges.

South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators charged Dr. Barry Awe of Greenville with seven counts of failing to file an income tax return for tax years 2002-2008.

The DOR investigation showed Awe, a licensed chiropractor, earned income in excess of $991,000 from 2002 to 2008; his state tax liability for the period charged is $45,660. He is facing up to seven years in prison and fines of up to $70,000 if convicted of the charges.

Awe is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
