Revenue Director to Join Law Firm

Columbia, SC…The Department of Revenue today announced that Ray N. Stevens, the Department's Director and a member of Governor Sanford's cabinet, will be joining the law firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP.  Stevens has been Director since his appointment by Governor Sanford in January 2006.

"It's been a privilege, an incredibly fulfilling experience. One I wouldn't trade for anything.  But, by early fall of this year, with Governor Sanford's term ending, I'd pretty well decided to head back to my litigation roots."
 
Prior to DOR, Stevens was a Judge at the SC Administrative Law Court and before was in charge of the Tax Division of the SC Attorney General's Office.    

"It's just something that gets in your blood.  And, when you add to that the benefit of being able to practice law with Parker Poe; it's just an opportunity I can't pass up.  I'm looking forward to the challenge."
 
In addition to being Director, Stevens serves as the Chairman of the Enterprise Committee at the SC Department of Commerce, serves on the Executive Board of the Federation of Tax Administrators, and is vice-president of the Southeastern Association of Tax Administrators.

Stevens will leave his position as Director on December 31 and will join Parker Poe as a partner on January 3, 2011.
