Second Denmark tax preparer arrested
South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators arrested a second tax preparer today in an ongoing investigation into the business practices of a Denmark tax service.
Quincy Lloyd Lundy, 20, a tax preparer for Computax, was charged with 11 counts of preparing fraudulent state tax returns. He is being held at the Bamberg County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
Lundy’s arrest follows the arrest of a former Computax tax preparer last Friday. Caronardo Fernanda Benbow, 21, is charged with 10 counts of preparing fraudulent tax returns while employed by Computax. He is being held at the Bamberg County Detention Center pending payment of a $20,000 surety bond.
Both men are accused of claiming bogus deductions or fake business losses to generate larger refunds for their clients. Each is facing up to five years in prison on each charge.
The agency’s investigation determined Computax clients were not aware of the fraudulent information used in the preparation of their tax returns, but some clients could be facing penalty and interest charges related to the case.
The revenue department’s investigation is ongoing.
