FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11 April 2008
Tax workshop offered for auto, recreational vehicle dealers
The South Carolina Department of Revenue will offer a special sales and use tax seminar in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, April 30 designed to show automobile, recreational vehicle and watercraft dealership owners and employees how to collect the state’s “maximum sales and use tax.”
A sales and use tax cap, or maximum tax, is applied to the sale of automobiles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles and watercraft. Revenue department employees at the one-day seminar at Springmaid Beach Resort will explain to attendees the state’s tax laws on collecting the maximum tax and reporting it to the department.
Tax seminar instructors will show participants how to complete the necessary tax forms to report the maximum tax. DOR employees also will provide information and instruction on the department’s available electronic services and show how the services can save dealership owners and their employees time and effort. Instructors also will explain what to expect in a revenue department audit.
The non-refundable registration fee is $45, which includes the costs of seminar materials, a continental breakfast and lunch. Registration can be made by calling the Department of Revenue at (803) 898-5593, or by emailing TaxpayerEd@sctax.org or visiting the DOR website at /Tax+Workshops/default.htm.
