South Carolina Shoppers Get Second Chance at Tax-Free Savings

Columbia, SC…As part of continued tax relief for South Carolina taxpayers, the South Carolina Legislature has approved the state's first, and one-time, Thanksgiving sales tax holiday which gets underway beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2006 and ending at midnight on Saturday, November 25, 2006.

During these two days, the state sales, use and casual excise tax will be suspended on all purchases. However, unlike the annual sales tax holiday held in August, the November sales tax holiday does not suspend any local option sales taxes or the accommodations tax.

Important points for shoppers to remember during the November sales tax holiday are:

  • The one-time sales tax holiday applies to all purchases except accommodations and additional guest charges.
  • The one-time sales tax holiday applies to purchases made by businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations and purchases by individuals.
